AR Goals by Grade Level
These are the minimum goals that students should have in each grade level. All teachers have personalized the goals for each individual student based on STAR, TAKS, ATOS and other reading resources.
Individual Student Goals
Individual student goal are set each grading term.
Three goals are set:
1) percent correct, which is always set at 85%
2) number of points
3) Reading Level
Using the goal setting chart as a guide, the teacher helps each individual student set a point goal that will be attainable yet ambitious enough to encourage reading growth. The following is a guide for each grade for the minimum goal that must be set each 6 weeks:
Kindergarten—2 points
1st grade – 4 points
2nd grade – 6 points
3rd grade – 10 points
4th grade – 15 points
5th grade – 18 points
6th grade – 20 points
7th grade – 22 points
8th grade – 25 points
Incentives – 2014-2015
A. Individual Yearly Incentives – based on meeting all 3 goals for each grade (see chart)
Level One – SUPER READER
The student’s name is placed on a recognition chart inside the classroom, and the student receives an incentive such as a bookmark or pencil. The grade level teachers will decide on an appropriate incentive.
Level Two – ADVANCED READER
The student’s name is placed on a display outside the classroom, and the student receives an additional appropriate incentive selected by the grade level teachers.
Level Three – STAR READER
A star with the student’s name and grade is placed on the Wall of Fame. The
student also receives an additional appropriate incentive selected by the grade level teachers.
Level Four – HONOR READER
An honor seal is placed on the student’s star. The student is awarded another incentive.
Level Five – ROARING READER
A medal is awarded during an assembly at the end of the year. The HSNA sponsors a pizza party.
B. Nine-Week Incentives – school-wide
