HSNA AR STARS – THE ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM
AT HSNA our mission is to foster a genuine love for reading in your child. The Accelerated Reader (AR) program is one of the components of our Balanced Literacy curriculum to accomplish that goal. Students will develop critical reading, comprehension, research and thinking skills. Most importantly they will also get to know themselves as readers and become active participants in book selection. The Accelerated Reader (AR) program will help students to select books based on their interests and reading level.
After they have adequately completed their reading of each book, students will then take a reading practice quiz and/ or Vocabulary quiz. They will have incentives from teachers and the AR coordinator, but ultimately our goal is that
students will be intrinsically motivated to accurately read and comprehend the books they have selected.
